Artist Statement
Much of my sculptural work entails the imitation of architectural and infrastructural elements. Walls, doorways, institutional lighting fixtures, rooftop HVAC units – these and other familiar fixtures serve as points of departure for me to consider the latent social potential of our built environment. Depending on one’s vantage point, something that appears strictly utilitarian can become activated or reanimated: hidden chambers appear, unseen mechanical processes grind into action, what was taken for granted gains sudden (sometimes unsettling) agency.
